ash1 Aishwarya Rai: Woman of the Year!
Aishwarya Rai is the woman, people love to hate!

Reason? She is the epitome of beauty and success. She has been blessed with good looks, a brain that she uses, elegant decorum, and the art of saying the right things at the right time.

She is a successful actor, what with hits like Guru and the critically acclaimed Jodhaa Akbar under her belt. And there’s more.

She is now a part of the Bachchan household. Daughter-in-law to Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, and wife to Abhishek Bachchan, Mrs. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan occupies an enviable position today.

And that’s why, most people tend to whisk her off!

They comment on her ‘plastic face’, her ‘irritating giggling-syndrome’, her ‘much practiced behaviour’, her ‘boring diplomacy’, and mock her when she is in the company of her in-laws and hubby playing the family woman to the hilt.

However, it’s for all the above mentioned reasons that we intend to salute Aishwarya today – on International Women’s Day. We call her the Balancer, for she balances her professional life with her personal so beautifully.

And we swear, that every woman who despises her, does so because, somewhere deep inside she knows that, she can never get there, and every man, who claims that she isn’t the woman, does so because he can’t have her, and because she is beyond ‘realism’, too perfect to be true!

She refuses to be dragged into controversies. She let’s her ‘rivals’ and ‘contemporaries’ do all the talking – for or against her – while she quietly performs her duties as an actor and a homemaker, conscientiously with panache, grit and dedication. And for all this and more, Aishwarya needs to be applauded.

She has shone more than any other actor (female) in the year gone by.

2007 opened to a ‘good house’ with Mani Ratnam’s Guru receiving critical claim. While Abhishek played the unintended role of Dhirubhai Ambani’s role to the hilt in the film, Ash did well as his ’supporting actor’- literally and figuratively speaking.

Jag Mundhra’s Provoked also provoked the critics to right a good word or two about the talented actor. Ash, with these two roles, proved that she could do more than just look good. Sans external embellishments, she ornamented the screen with worthy performances.

Then came the big fat Indian wedding.

Undeterred Aishwarya did the most daring thing an Indian actor can do. On April 20 last year, she tied the knot, not caring for the repurcussions marriage can have on a flourishing career, especially in India.

While most actors (female) entered the state of oblivion soon after becoming Missus, Ash continues to act and makes her presence felt, unlike many others, whose absence from the big screen doesn’t hurt too much.

The girl was then in the news, for having been roped in to play a to-die-for role in Ram Gopal Verma’s Sarkar Raj, her international project Pink Panther, and then of course, the introduction of her wax statue at Madame Tussauds in Times Square, New York in August 2007.

To add to her success as an actor, and to pay a tribute to her beauty, Ben Kingsley roped in Ash to play his ladylove Mumtaz Mahal in his production venture, Taj Mahal. The film will be shot in Fatehpur Sikri and Agra sometime this year.

And just as we thought that the year couldn’t get better, and a woman can’t do more than this, the Bachchan family performed yet another wonder. Amitabh Bachchan laid the foundation of a girl’s college in the name of Aishwarya Rai.

More recently, Ash outshone in Jodhaa Akbar as the strong and exquisite Jodhaa, without whom, Akbar would be absolutely incomplete!

We end this article, with a salutation to Aishwarya, the complete actor, homemaker, a woman of substance who stands tall, and stands her own with much grace and dignity.

And there are miles to go, and accolades to be won, and for Ash, we’re sure, the year has just begun!

Hello Ravi,

Did she really do some plastic surgery?? I noticed only her nose shape was different while crowning her Miss world, nothing else. And are her eyes really blue?? They were never blue in her movies in the past only in her movie “Umrao Jaan” as she was wearing blue lences.
Whatever is the secret, she’s the most beautiful woman (now). I didn’t find her that beautiful in the past, 10 years ago, I always considred Sushmita Sin more beautiful, but now, she’s the most beautiful actress in Bollywood.

@Fathiya – Answers to your queries:

# I’ve no idea about the plastic surgery bit.
# Yes, her eyes are natural blue.

Sushmita has her own set of charms :)

Take care!

Hi, In a self-description document that has been around some time on the web, she declares emphatically that “everything about her is genuine”… That must have been 3 or 4 years ago, perhaps. I’d be tempted to take her word for it, since her personality is very militant when it comes to herself. But even if she did re-do her nose, well, that would be her right, wouldn’t it?

yes, it’d her right, but, as far as I know that most film stars – whether they are from Hollywood, Bollywood, Arab world, they do some plastic surgeries, if some of them will re-shape a small part of the face, such as nose or a chin to look better is not a problem as they’ve to do to look better on screen, and we can’t consider their beauty as fake, but some famous stars such as Nancy Ajram, the famous Lebanese singer who’s her pics.also in the Indian Masala Weekly, changed her face “completely”. She got a fake face, she’s beautiful now and she couldn’t hide this fact as everyone saw her face before the surgery, but people always look at her face as a “fake” and a fake beauty is cheap, am I right or wrong?

There are thousand of beautiful women in Gulf Arabia, Persia, Italy, Maxico, round the world who never nominate themselves to be beauty queens. So, if some girls from any part of this world nominate themselves for these functions, and one of them win and then, she’s crowned & considered as the most beautiful woman in the world, does it really mean that she’s the most ( and the only) beautiful woman in the world?!
It’s just because she’s one of those girls who nominated themselves, and she won the crown and became famous.
Many girls in this world won’t bother to win this crown, many girls aren’t allowed by their families for these functions, so, we can’t say that Aish is the most beautiful woman in the world ’cause – you guys – never saw those women out there! those women who’re far..far.. and very far from your sights.

I do agree with you Fathiya..There a many women out ther who are indeed more beautiful than her,but she got a CHANCE to come out an prove herself..Hmm….very few get that chance..Well….Aish was the runner up and Sushmitha sen was Miss India.,that itself shows that Sush is more beautiful and woman with brains than her..But,yes she due to her height, she cudnt get gud movie chances opposite star heroes.

Pinky: we get a chance when we (want) that chance..when we’re looking for that chance.. when we’re ambitious and when our religion allows us to show our beauty for everyone just to win a crown and be a celibrity.

Do u think any true muslim girl would allow herself to wear a bikini and walk on a stage, and would let millions of viewers watch her in that moment, just to win that crown?! This crown is worthless for lots of people in this world, this crown means nothing for them, but it does for lots of girls.. Sushmita struggled to be Miss Universe and she did it, but if she never bothered about this crown, and didn’t join bollywood..let’s say she became a desinger, a teacher or a doctor, means didn’t become a famous beautiful woman.. she’d still remain a beautiful woman.. a beauty which was hidden behind the walls!

i love this woman aish coz of her beauty not coz she was crowned miss world……if she had entered bolly without any beauty pageant tag she would have remained the most beautiful. i like sushmita too…she is graceful but luks wise she is not at all beautiful (though luks gorg with makeup) but conventionally speaking she is not a pretty woman…she even admitted her self several times that she was just about to leave the beauty pag coz aish was in it…not just her some other participants too since they all thought that aish will win coz she is sooo beautiful…but call it sush's luck that the judges went on the answers they gave rather than the luks…when i saw aish's first movie i was totally stunned to see that how beautiful she lukd in her first film…not seen a single bolly actress who has lukd good in thier first film…watch iruvaar
