Akshay Kumar has completed his first Indo-Canadian venture Breakaway (produced by Akshay’s production company Hari Om Entertainment and First Take Entertainment) with acclaimed actors Rob Lowe, Russell Peters, Camilla Belle and Anupam Kher, including a special appearance by Akshay himself.

Directed by Robert Lieberman, Akshay says he has spared no effort to ensure that people in India and abroad will love the film. It also has music videos featuring Ludacris, Drake and Akshay with music composed by RDB.

Says Akshay, “I want Bollywood films to enter the Hollywood market. Breakaway has A-listers. The film is ready to have a Hollywood and worldwide release on September 30. It’s been bought by one of the world’s largest distributors – Alliance Atlantis – and is the first film that the company has bought from an Indian producer. We are treating it like a Hollywood release with 3500-plus prints. I want to showcase Indian culture to Hollywood and how Indians are settled abroad. I hope, the young and old will connect to it. The film will be a curtain raiser at the Toronto Film Festival on September 10.”

While it’s title is Breakaway for the international release, for India it’s titled Speedy Singhs.

Akshay adds, “Its a warm story about a young Indian ice hockey player who wants to get into the big league. The story deals with a small club player against a bigger club. I’m introducing Vinay, who is also a very good ice hockey player. The film is about an Indian family and how they want to break the stranglehold that whites have abroad over sports; ice hockey in particular.

The entire film has been shot in Canada at beautiful cities like Calgary,Toronto and Vancouver. I want to thank the Canadian government for helping me make this movie. It wouldn’t have been possible without their support.”
