Divya Dutta has not just turned into a new leaf, with her new makeover now, but has also gone ahead and done some bold scenes for a new film, a political drama titled Monica.
This political thriller is based on the famous Shivani Bhatnagar murder – a journalist who was found murdered in her Delhi flat – some years ago.
Ashutosh Rana plays the politician in Monica, opposite Divya Dutta, who exploits and uses her.
Sushen Bhatnagar, the director of this film, says he is highly inspired by Shivani’s case.
“Monica happened way back when Shivani Bhatnagar died in 1999. Some of my journalist friends suggested that I should make a movie on this,” he says.
The producer of the film, Kush Bhargava says “I have been a member of the Congress Working Committee. I have come across these kind of girls and got inspired to make a movie on them. Our idea is to show the world, that ambition is not only limited to men, even women are equally ambitious,” he explains. “Girls from small towns are often exploited and abused by politicians and people from other areas”, Bhargava opines.
The film, he says, has a lot of bold scenes. And Divya, who’s been earlier praised for many powerhouse performances, was game.
“I was initially hesitant, but when I heard the script, I shed all my inhibitions,” she says continuing, “During the shooting, I have learnt a lot about these small time, young and over ambitious girls who fall prey to the wrong hands. At the end, what they get is nothing but notoriety. It’s quite sad”, she says.
