Lisa Ray is suffering from Multiple Myeloma, a rare and incurable cancer of the white blood cells. She revealed the tragic news on her blog.
The 37-year-old actress, who started her career with modeling and first made her debut in Bollywood in 2001 with Kasoor, has left her friends, colleagues and fans shocked and concerned.
Here are some excerpts from Lisa’s blog:
On September 6, she wrote: “I’ve started this blog to give people an insight into my life. The yellow diaries will be a place where I write about my personal journey.”
On September 8, she posted: “I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on June 23rd and started my treatment on July 2nd…not long ago.”
More excerpts: “For me, it was a relief to hear what was wrong. The plasma cells in my bone marrow were rampaging, multiplying, squeezing out the red blood cells and it was time to begin doing something about it. You just know when something is kosher with your body.
When I got the news, I didn’t react and didn’t cry. I am an actress, believe me, I can be dramatic. My bone marrow started sending me messages a few months ago,” she wrote. It was then that the actress decided to undergo a medical examination.
Lisa, who had also been voted as ‘The Most Beautiful Woman of the Millennium‘ is currently in Canada.
She was most recently seen in Deepa Mehta‘s Water, where she played a young widow. Lisa also plays a lesbian in Shamim Sarif‘s I Can’t Think Straight, which is due for release on September 11.
Lisa, who has attached herself to various causes through her career, now plans to focus the spotlight to Myeloma and cancer awareness.
“I am going to do everything I can, to create awareness on cancer,” she says.
The actress has managed to keep herself optimistic despite the tragic discovery. She hopes and believes that she can be cured. In her words: “I believe, it can be cured. That’s the dirty realist in me.”

I’m sorry to hear this news coz I’m her fan.. but I think she’ll overcome this problem.. I can say from her character that she’s a strong woman.. and the way she thinks is absolutely right.. to believe that she can defeat cancer and she’ll be alright.

Lisa Ray lives with her longtime partner Paolo Zambaldi, a fashion photographer.
I am also saddened by the news, but I know she’s a strong woman and would eventually emerge as a winner. Our thoughts & prayers are with her.

Hi Ravi.. I asked u if the movie was released and u answered yes.. but now I read 2 lines in this page, which I already missed, that the movie will be released of 11th of this month!
One more question: Is Lisa half indian and half canadian?
@Fathiya – The movie was released worldwide in 2007 except India. It’s now releasing in India on Sep 11.

Thanks Ravi.. but the movie still not released in our country.. and while viewing the link which u mentioned, I found out that she was born on April 4.. I was born on April 2.. now I know the main reason.. why I liked here when I saw her for 1st time and loved her character & her face.. because we both are “aries”.
We’re alike.. it doesn’t mean that I admire myself.. no.. my guts, my opinions in this life put me into lots of problems.. but I always used to see myself in her.. now I knew the reason!
