It took a little more than talent for actor Aamir Khan to back – produce, direct and act – a film like Taare Zameen Par, a movie with a unique concept, that of dyslexia!
It took guts, and it all seems to have paid off. With the film being nominated at all Indian award functions and even bagging an impressive number of trophies, it has now become the Indian film to go to the Oscars!
Yes, Taare Zameen Par is the chosen film that’ll be sent from India for the Oscars. And of course, Aamir is thrilled about it all. A lot of industry people, too, are lending their support and applauding the Khan of this laurel.
Says nephew Imran Khan, “Mamu did it first with Lagaan, and now again. It’s a proud moment for the family. I may sound immodest but Mamu is the best. I thought Taare Zameen Par was a great film.”
Sanjay Dutt too was jubilant on hearing the news. “It’s awesome! Aamir deserves it. He’s already a winner in my eyes, but I do wish him even more success. May he bring the trophy home. I’m very happy for him!” said Dutt.
Though Aamir has banned awards, he claimed that he’d accept those he considered to be ‘fair and unbiased’, and in this list falls the National Awards and, of course, the Oscars.
It can be remembered that last year’s Indian nomination at the Oscars – Eklavya – stirred up quite a controversy. This time, too, while some may speculate about Chak De! India being quite a contender, it’s TZP that seems to have caught the jury’s eye.
It simply twinkled and shined a little brighter, we guess!
