Bollywood to Hollywood: Who all made it possible?

It seems our Bollywood stars are bidding adieu to their filmdom and embracing Hollywood for a change. The bigshots in Bollywood cinema are trying to be global with their acting prowess and even Hollywood is welcoming them with open arms. Let’s see who all are bitten by the Hollywood bug and who all got successful:

Tabu: The classic and out-of-the-box talent of Tabu did not go unnoticed by the people in West. Her performance in Namesake was highly praiseworthy and noteworthy. Well, she has not travelled all these miles just for the sake of it. The siren deserves the name and fame.

Celina Jaitly: Sizzling and sassy, Celina is flying on seventh heaven with her new and interesting venture. If you are thinking it’s a movie on her way, you have got it wrong. She has begun being a brand ambassador for ‘Proactive’, an international skin and beauty care brand.

Mallika Sherawat: Ooh! This beauty queen goes international with her flick Politics Of Love. ‘Avatar’ star Laz Alonso appears in the movie along with the curvy babe. Mallika will be playing the cameo of a local Obama volunteer coordinator. She was also a part of the movie The Myth with world famous Jackie Chan.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: There is not one in her kitty, but many. Her first international film was Mistress of Spices, the dove-eyed beauty paved her way for more. Pink Panther 2 and The Last Legion are the movies too that helped her to achieve Hollywood fame.

AR Rahman: He appeared to be a touchstone for the international hit Slumdog Millionaire. He touched it and the movie turned out to be a precious gem in the cinema history. He won an Oscar award for the best original song and the best original score at the 81st Academy Awards.

Irrfan Khan: It’s not only the females who join the league. Here we come across the ultimate actor, Irrfan Khan who made it big with Namesake and also grabbed a role in The Mighty Heart opposite Angelina Jolie.

Anil Kapoor: How could we not include Anil Kapoor in the foray? Playing the host of a game show in the movie Slumdog Millionaire, he won millions and trillions of accolades. Lot of compliments and praises came his way after his tiny supporting role in the movie. May it be a small role, but he got the green signal from Hollywood, at least.

Naseeruddin Shah: The actor of class and integrity found an appearance in Hollywood’s famous project, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Valley of Flowers.

Om Puri: He is not a newbie to Hollywood. Rather he is one of the oldest and the first stars to go for Hollywood. The Ghost And The Darkness and East Is East are a few of his assignments to mention.

Anupam Kher: The matchless actor is bound to get Hollywood projects for his acting skills. We got to see Anupam Kher in Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution.

They may have begun their career in Bollywood, but it seems they want a ticket to Hollwood now. With Hollywood movies, the Bollywood bigshots are climbing huge rungs of the ladder. Bollywood freaks will surely miss them all but we should not forget they are bringing thecountry in notice with lot of appreciation in their bag.

Anil Kapoor to play cop in Roger Donaldson’s financial thriller Cities

Acclaimed director / writer Roger Donaldson (Hungry Rabbit Jumps, The Bank Job, The Recruit) has locked in his next directorial project titled Cities which will star Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Clive Owen (Duplicity, Inside Man, Children Of Men, Closer) and our very own Anil Kapoor!

This is Anil Kapoor’s second big Hollywood film that he has bagged after getting famous in the West with his Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. Anil will soon be seen rubbing shoulders with Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol and will also be filming the financial thriller, Cities, produced by Matthew Metcalfe (Dean Spanley, Love Birds) and Chris Curling (Hannibal Rising, The Last Station).

The film is set to roll come October 2011 in multiple cities that will include London, Mumbai and New York.

Cities is a cautionary tale about greed and ambition that takes place in the exuberant months leading up to the Dow Jones all-time stock market high. Fortunes, both big and small are put at risk as people around the globe gamble that the financial market’s meteoric rise will continue. In New York, a hedge fund manager has everything he wants – money, sex and power, but he wants more. In London, a young couple just wants to buy their first home, but it seems impossibly out of reach. In Mumbai, a cop fights against corruption between property speculators and his colleagues. These stories will all dramatically collide in a world where the fortunes of individuals are interwoven with the lives of others across the globe they have never even met.

“Cities is a project that I am very enthusiastic about”, commented Donaldson. “Set in the great cities of the world, this film will tell a story for our time while also being a relevant, dramatic, exciting and a highly watchable movie.”

Anil Kapoor to go bald for Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power

On one hand, he’s in the news for having signed the Hollywood blockbuster Mission Impossible 4 opposite Tom Cruise, while on other, Anil Kapoor is busy gearing up for something that’ll be a hair-raising revelation for many.

The actor will shave off his head completely for his role in Rajkumar Santoshi‘s Power!

Considering the actor’s hairstyle has undergone next to no change over all these years, this latest development is sure to shock many of his fans.

Media source said, “Anil Kapoor is known to be extremely possessive about his hair style. This is the first time he is playing the role of a villain in a film. His character in the film is very mercurial, edgy and stylised. Anil, too, was thinking about his role for the last month and after much contemplation, he chose to go completely bald.”

The decision was a tough one for the actor, who is known for being one of the fittest guys in Bollywood. He wanted the character to be a notch higher than the other villains played on screen before. There was also a lot of debate on him wearing a wig but he finally decided against it.

The source further said, “Anil is currently busy promoting his film, No Problem. Post that, he will go to shoot for Mission impossible 4. He will return around Christmas this year and soon after, he plans to go bald and start shooting for Power.”

The actor’s official spokesperson confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Anil will be taking a bold step for his role in Power.”

The film, to be produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Amisha Patel and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. But we all know who will stand out for sure!

One of India’s most well-known Bollywood actors, Anil Kapoor has carved a name for himself not only on the subcontinent, but also overseas in markets like the United States.

Most moviegoers in the west will recognize Anil for his role in the Academy Award-winning film, “Slumdog Millionaire” in 2008. His performance in the film earned him a Screen Actors Guild award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

But, long before his breakthrough role for western audiences in “Slumdog Millionaire,” Anil was one of the biggest celebrities in India.

He first won acclaim for his role in the 1984 film “Mashaal” and 3 years later was part of another critical success in “Mr. India.” Anil went on to appear in a number of highly lucrative films during the 1990s & was given several awards during his career.

For Anil and his family though, it seems that the acting bug runs in the family! Anil’s daughter, Sonam Kapoor is also one of the country’s popular Bollywood stars.

Anil and Sonam Kapoor spoke to Becky Anderson on CNN International’s Connect the World about Slumdog Millionaire, nepotism in movies & working together as a father-daughter duo amongst other things.

No Entry sequel in the pipeline!

If you enjoyed watching No Entry, we are sure you will be game to watch out the sequel as well. Producer Boney Kapoor and Director Anees Bazmee have joined hands to make a sequel of their hit movie, No Entry.

They have also put all rumors to rest that it is inspired by the Hollywood comedy The Hangover, though the execution of the screenplay will have a lot of resemblance to The Hangover, with lots of going back and forth.

The original male gang of Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan has been roped in already for the sequel, but the makers are not too sure if they want to repeat the female cast of Esha Deol, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitly.

To double up the fun, the male leads will all be in double roles of father son duo and the film will be extensively shot in the U.S. and Paris.

Looks like, it’s definitely going to be worth a watch!
